Pilot districts

Loodswezen District North deals with the ports of Harlingen, Delfzijl and Eemshaven. Kornwerderzand, Lauwersoog. Den Oever and Den Helder also fall under their jurisdiction on request.

The environment has played an important role in the increased use of the shipping channel in the last ten years, which has had the effect of drastically changing the manner of piloting in this area.

A total of 16 pilots are available in the Noord region. They are all very experienced and have had excellent training. This is necessary in an area that is subject to a variety of changing circumstances and challenging situations at sea.

Loodswezen Noord encompasses the ports of Harlingen, Delfzijl and Eemshaven. On request, the ports of Kornwerderzand, Lauwersoog, Den Oever and Den Helder can also be provided with pilot services. The Association of Pilots for the region Rotterdam-Rijnmond/Noord, makes regular use of radar simulation techniques in order to solve logistical problems. Additionally, to ensure that a high quality product is provided, working closely with other services is a must.

Pilot station for Harlingen
The Pilot station for Harlingen is situated at the entrance to the Stortemelk (SM buoy) and Vlieree (buoy ZS 15).

Pilot station for Delfzijl and Eemshaven
The pilot station for Delfzijl and Eemshaven is to be found at the entrance to Westereems (WE buoy) and Borkum.

The company has a network of offices throughout the Netherlands and works closely with her sister organisation in Emden (Lotsen Brüderschaft Emden). For ships to be directed towards the entrance to the river Eems in bad weather conditions, such as storms or fog, the German pilot’s organisation provides radar assistance towards the embarkation point where pilots can board safely. This ensures that our clients reach their destination safely and smoothly. Working like this, means that we can provide them with a 24 hour service.
